Cause I don't do so well keeping them. My digital camera is busted and so I'm not likly to post many pics till I have another one. I haven't been doing much over the summer except losing weight and planning my sis-in-law's wedding. The wedding was on Labor Day so I am now free to move on to my traditional fall activities! I have managed to lose nearly 30 pounds since I started WW in March so I'm more willing now to knit things for myself. Currently I'm knitting on a woolease shrug, my FBS, an almost finished pair of Jaywalkers, the child-size Accordion from Knitty and I'm finishing crocheting a rainbow star baby blanket. I've also made a couple of hats during the summer, I LOVE making hats, they are so quick and satisfying. And hubby says I look good in them so it's all good baby!! Things I'm planning on knitting this fall include(but are not limited to): the Chicknits Ribby Cardi for me in Chocolate and Eggplant, maybe Ivy from the fall '06 Knitty, a zippered cardi for hubby, and hoodies for my girls, my clapotis, and lots of customary winter wear such as scarves, hats and mittens. This doesn't include several pair of socks always on the needles!! I'm starting to get seriously interested in fair aisle projects, particularly mittens. So I'm scanning the net and mags for a good starter pattern. I haven't had much time for spinning and I'm kinda depressed about how lacking my skills are in that area. Anyway there's an update for ya. Oh and by the way I joined Socktoberfest this year!! Can't wait to get some new sock yarns!!!

Back from the dead, I am...

yep, that's me.

Sorry about that. I plan on making hubby find the cable for the camera tomorrow so I can post a jazillion pics for ya. I'm not spending as much time on my fiber pursuits as I was. I changed my daily schedule around so I was putting first things first. Nurturing my relationship with Jesus, taking care of myself (read: working out regularly), homeschooling my dd in the mornings instead of the afternoons (better for her) and spending some quality time with all 3 munchkins. After all that and housework and billpaying besides, there ain't much time left for fiber play. But I do have many finished projects from Feb. and the beginning of March to show off. Currently I'm working on a few shawls, the 2nd Jaywalker sock and trying to get some skirts cut out and sewn up. I have bags and bags of fleece to be washed, carded, dyed and spun waiting for me in the corner of my livingroom!

But life goes on and I'm not too stressed by the lack of fiber time, it seems to go in cycles. On the other hand a woman from my church called me this afternoon to talk about the possibility of starting a Prayer Shawl Ministry out of our church. This strikes a chord with what I've been feeling in my spirit lately. I've just been waiting on the Lord to lead and guide me. So please pray for me that I would be full of wisdom and drenched in God's favor!

Hubby is turning in a letter of resignation tomorrow at the machine shop. (BIG sigh of relief inserted here!) He's been working 3 different jobs and has a 4th during the summer. We are making the decision to cut back his hours for some much needed family time and have a peace that it's God's will right now. Between May and July things are gonna be kinda unsettled in that department. The job offer he's accepted doesn't go full time till after the 4th of July. But we have the peace of knowing we are right smack in the middle of God's will for us right now so I'm not worried at all.

I'm very excited about my weight loss progress!! I rejoined Weight Watchers about 5 weeks ago and so far have dropped about 7.5 pounds as of last tuesday. I have a total of 72 pounds to lose so this is a long term process.

I'm generally someone who LOVES exercise and I've got myself into a steady routine of weight training and walking/jogging 6 days a week. I'm logging about 12-16 miles a week at the moment and my energy is thru the roof!! I feel soooooo much better and my health is improving since we made some nutritional adjustments to the grocery shopping list. My fitness goal for the last 3 years has been to get into shape in time to run the Tulsa Run. We'll see what happens but this year I have real honest-to-goodness hope!!

Just so my fiber friends don't think I have forgotten them, here's a big hello and howya doin? to Jan, R'gina, Shelly and Christina.

I'm BAAAAAACK!

Sorry it's been awhile between posts, our computer is trying to die on us and hubby and been desperately searching for parts and performing transplant surgeries on it. It's still not dependable, more work needs to be done so if you can't get a hold of me or I don't get to comment everywhere I may be unable to get online. I can't post all my pics since the cable isn't where it should be? But I can show ya the yummy wool I got from Jessica, my partner in the Winter Wool Swap. It's all from my wishlist at knitpicks.com

On the bottom right, is 4 hanks of Shadow, 100% merino laceweight yarn in Sunset. This is slated for a lace shawl for fall, not sure on the pattern yet. On the bottom left is 4 hanks of Alpaca Cloud, 100% heathered baby alpaca laceweight yarn in Iris. This is for the long-awaited Flower Basket Shawl. This stuff feels soooooooo amazing!! Moving to top left, you see 2 hanks of Gossamer, handpainted 100% merino laceweight yarn in Sweet Peas. Not sure what I'll make with this yet. Then last but not least, top right you see what's currently on the needles. This is 2 hanks of Sock Memories, handpainted 100% merino fingering weight in the Fly Fishing colorway. For Yarn Harlot's Knitting Olympics, I'm knitting my first pair of socks, the Jaywalker pattern from Magknits.com They are for my dear hubby who has apparently been desperately anxious I was never going to knit him anything besides hats. LOL I'm progressing well on them but don't think I can finish both before the torch goes out. My hands are not accustomed to knitting with tiny toothpicks and my carpel tunnel has been acting up, slowing me down. I just finished all the gusset decreases and have only 3 inches of the foot and the toe to go. I PROMISE to post all the progress pics I've taken so far as soon as I can.

Let's see, other news includes a haircut, starting weight watchers tomorrow, finished my shrug, my swap partner loved the wool I spun for her, I plan on spending time this week dyeing that fingering weight merino I bought and sewing up a skirt for spring, and I'm shopping for my first hand carders and more wool to spin. Where do you all get your wool? Drop me a comment so I can check them out too!

Oh and I wanted to tell the whole wide world of bloggers that I have the most wonderful, loving, funny, and sweet husband in the universe. I love you honey!!

"Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong." ~ I Corinthians 13:4-5

Now on to fiber-related events and musings.

I have gone nuts lately. I've been picking up yarn and patterns left and right. Like I'm ever gonna get all these projects done, yeah well you know how it goes right? I'm a yarnaholic. So what have I added to my stash? you're asking?

8 balls of LB Landscapes wool blend at 50% off
2 HUGE balls of JoAnn's Sensations Rainbow Boucle
2 balls of LB Moonlight Mohair
2 skeins Simply Soft

and I just ordered 3 hanks of KnitPicks Color your own merino fingering weight wool.

I also have a box of wool coming from the C'ville winter wool swap.

I also got the most awesome pressie in the mail the other day from a new fiber friend; gorgeous merino & wool blend rovings to spin! But the piece de' resistance was the faboulous dyed silk roving she snuck in there too! I'm all kinds of nervous when I think of spinning it. Sooooooo afraid I'll ruin it! Think I'll pet and fondle and drool over that for awhile till I get more spinning confidence. Who knows when I'd be able to afford to buy more? For me, silk is right up there with cashmere, the stuff dreams are made of! YUMMY!

I also got about 8 different patternbooks for $1 each at the big Hobby Lobby sale last week.

Now your next question is probably: "what are you gonna knit with it all?" right? Hmm... some of it is planned and some of it isn't! (just realized I use alot of exclamation points! sorry! :P

well 6 of the 8 balls of landscapes are in the River Crossing colorway, bought for hubby to be a scarf and hat. If you have pattern suggestions, let 'em rip.

the other 2 balls in Coral Reef might become a hat for me but not anytime soon.

One ball of the Rainbow Boucle in Dark Blue tones is becoming the crocheted Martha poncho for my dear momma's b-day next month. Hope to have some left over from that project. The other ball is in Berry shades and will be for a Lily Chin crochet pattern I bought awhile back, a shawl-collared jacket worked almost entirely in the round. Should be beautiful in this yarn!

The Moonlight Mohair is the Purple Mountain colorway and will be joining another ball I already had to become Stitch-Diva's Mini Floral Poncho. Yes,I know it's crocheted! I'm crocheting alot right now, just in the mood I guess. Anyway I plan to wear this to a family wedding towards the end of next month.

The Simply Soft? Well why not? It appeals to the side of me that can still deal with acrylics on occasion. And it's cheap for designing with. Speaking of, I designed a crocheted hat last night full of fp cables and shells. It's beautiful! I plan on writing up the pattern to sell on Crochet Pattern Roundup, the new site by RachelG. I'll probably wait till I finish the matching scarf pattern as well. Hmm...this stitch would make wonderful snug wristwarmers!! Wooohoooo!! I'll keep you informed.

       Soooooooooooooooo..............
anyway, you want to know what I've been working on?

1) the new hat design
2) my Romance in the Round shrug...my design
(this is almost done, will wear nxt weekend!)
3) the vintage 1940's handbag to pair with the shrug.
4) my mom's Martha poncho...started today.
5) a knitted scarf and felted flower pin for a friend from my own handpainted handspun wool!
   (this is done and delivered!!)
6) a knitted short-row round dishcloth
(this is done! I LOVED THIS PATTERN! so much fun to knit!)
7) a new dishcloth pattern called Bubble Wrap Cloth!
8) still need to finish Teddy's other mitten.
9) spinning and dyeing wool for my winter wool swap partner Jen.

Of course that's not all my WIP's, just what's at the top of the heap ya know. ;)

I reall love knitting dishcloths, especially fun patterns that aren't just mindless garter-stitch or stockinette.

Other than the projects already listed, the biggest knitting challenge I have looming is what I've decided to knit for Yarn Harlot's Knitting Olympics.
I've drooled for what seems like forever over the Flower Basket Shawl from the 2004 Fall Interweave Knits. So I'm taking the plunge my dear readers. The wool has been ordered, I will be dyeing it first, a subtle blend of 2 or 3 shades of one color. Don't want anything too busy or you might miss the lacey pattern ya know. I'm thinking a muted aqua with a hint of sky blue and sage green, that is if I can pull that off! I am fairly new to dyeing my own stuff. Wish I was good enough to spin my own for this but I'm just not there yet. Someday, someday.

Anyways, if you are still reading at this point, here's a (((((hug))))) for ya. Love you all and may all your homes be blessed.

"All a man's ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart."
~Proverbs 21:2

Once I started taking the dayquil/nyquil combo the symptons disappeared. Yesterday however they just stopped working. And it all seems to have settled in my right ear. I can't hear anything out of it now and the pain is becoming unbearable. I called my mom last night, she's an RN to see if she had any appropriate antibiotics on hand. She brought me some, praying they work. She's such a great mom, after seeing how much pain I was in, she stayed long enough to bathe my kids, change the linens on all their beds and read them a bedtime story. Ahh.... time for me to sit and relax in the QUIET livingroom. I know she doesn't read my blog, she's not internet-savy at all but anyway, I LOVE YOU MOM!
So please pray for me that the antibiotics do the job, relieving the pressure and pain in my ear, and take care of any infection that might be there. I don't have health insurance so a doctor's visit is totally NOT in the budget right now.

"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not abandon the works of your hands."
~Psalm 138:8

Of course the redhead is mine.

Now for the long-awaiting pics of Clapotis! I still plan on getting a better pic of it perhaps on my sisinlaw but for now these will suffice.
still in progress:

Finished and blocking overnight on Christmas Eve!

Clapotis was a really fun knit and I definately see several more in my future! And I loved the yarn I used, BrooksFarm FourPlay, a wool/silk blend in the Ginger 2 colorway. It felt like heaven running thru my fingers and was so buttery and cool to the touch. Ahhh pure bliss. And for the stats, I ordered 3 hanks and used about 2.5 for Clapotis following the pattern exactly except for purling the dropped stitches and not using stitch markers.

This week I've actually been sick, don't get sick very often but when I do it's bad. While I haven't been getting my spinning done I have been able to work on some crochet projects, designing for myself. I will be posting them soon on my crochet blog. I'll let you know when I do.

I'll leave you with pics of my kiddos. Now that my oldest is 7, she is scaring us with how quickly time is passing. I know everyone thinks their children are the most beautiful in the world but.....she is truly becoming a knock-out! In another couple of years daddy is gonna have to start carrying a baseball bat around! God help us all then.

My son is quite the cowboy now, and he wants everything camo as well so he's definately ALL BOY!

The youngest is my mischief maker and comediene. She looks like a princess but don't let that fool you. She is one shrewd little girl and as smart as they come!

You are Merino Wool. You are very easygoing and sweet. People like to keep you close because you are so softhearted. You love to be comfortable and warm from your head to your toes.

But without further ado......

This is my very first handspun, spun during the lesson I got from the Ashford dealer. Cool huh?

These are 2-ply coopworth, I spun one ply, my hubby spun the other and plyed them for me, the ball of single ply I spun myself.

Then my amazing hubby went and bought me half a suffolk fleece for my other Christmas present!<3

here are some before pics, (my oldest is modeling ala Price is Right style) They are very soft although the canadian mill they were processed in didn't do a great job picking them. They are litered with bits of straw and grass. Oh well, we'll see what happens right?

I decided to spin some up first as thick and thin singles. The suffolk spun up nice and soft with the occasional ouch from the straw. Then I did some research and decided to try dyeing with food coloring instead of Kool-aid (which I've tried before and liked okay). I dyed the singles and some rovings.

Now I'm spinning up the dyed rovings so I can decide which I like better. Here's the dyed singles, for some reason the camera is just not getting the colors right on this yarn at all. The colors are very soft, not pastel but muted shades and very pretty. I'm calling it Canyon Sunset.

And here are the dyed rovings.

These two I spun up and then plyed myself (my first ply job!). I love this!! And the colors are completely accurate on these.

She's still in need of finishing which will hopefully happen tomorrow, in either bombay mahogany satin, or antique walnut, have an opinion? Isn't she a beaut?!
We went and got her this morning and the dealer gave me a lesson on one of her wheels as well as a great deal on 16oz coopworth roving. She is my first wheel and you better believe hotwheel cars won't be anywhere near her!!!!

Here's some of the things I've been working on.

This is the Diamond Blossom Scarf from Modular Knits by Iris Schreier. I was trying to finish it by the promotion deadline. Didn't happen. Oh well, there are other promotions. It has gone by the wayside till after Christmas seeing as how it's not a gift. It will be for my oldest to match her church coat, oh and it's done in RH supersaver (only cause she's hard on her scarves!!)

Next up is the Irish Hiking Wristwarmers! My first cabling project. I still have one of these to work up and they are a xmas gift for a very dear friend of mine. I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Winter Night. These are very easy, fun and work up quickly!

I'm also working on a crochet cabled hat to go in my brother's stocking in Caron Simply Soft doubled, which I haven't taken a pic of yet. I love to crochet but it's really killing my wrist right now and doubling the yarn just made it worse so I'm working on it in little fits and spurts.

I've made a little tunsian crochet change wallet in red and green RH supersaver for my son's stocking.

I'm working on a cabled knit scarf for hubby in woolease T&Q pine which will NOT be done in time for xmas but that's okay with him so I'm not stressin on that one.

I've also got two other scarves on the needles that are supposed to be holiday gifts but will probably be late as well. One for my neighbor and one for my friend Shana at church.

One of my favorite WIP's is the circular dishcloth I'm working on for my friend Miranda, I've come to the realization that I'm totally in love with any pattern involving short rows!! They are so much fun to work! Can't wait to make a whole bunch of these for myself and my mom. Actually hubby thought he would be cute and snap a pic of me last night when he got home from work. Apparently I fell asleep while knitting on this...I'll spare you the picture, it's wierd.

I finished scarves for my brother's girlfriend and another special person in time for xmas.

Well all this is the little stuff......

Now for the Main Course.....

I'm knitting the Clapotis Shawl/Scarf for my sil Anna for Christmas. I bought the Four Play yarn from Brooks Farm in the Ginger 2 colorway. It's a four ply 50% fine wool 50% silk. It's absolutely the most wonderful yarn I've knit with so far. I bought 3 hanks but will only use about 2.5. Hopefully I will have enough left over to try the Clapotis cap to match after xmas. I just started into the 2nd hank yesterday so I'm almost at the halfway point. Please pray for me that I get this done! I need to go get some woolwash so that i can get it blocked before I wrap it up for her. Here are some yarn & progress picks for you.

I will try to post a finished pic on Christmas Eve if not before!!

Praying for all you knitters out there knitting like chickens with your heads cut off trying to finish gifts for Christmas!!

So what to do?

I really want to knit myself a sweater AND a shawl so I guess I choose the Flower Basket Shawl and Tubey. I'll probably do Mrs Beeton and the Branching Out scarf as side projects. Now to order my yarn.......... hmmm...maybe after Christmas. If some of my family members happen to read my blog which other than my sis, it would shock me to the bone, I would really love a KnitPicks Gift Certificate for Christmas!!!

I'd tell ya what I've been working on, but since I don't know if he reads my blog, I better wait till after the holidays. Don't want to ruin my surprise you know.

Into the world of double points I made my first foray. I came to the knowledge that all three of my munchkins were getting chapped hands from playing outside in the cold weather. So I determined to overcome my unfounded fear of DP's and cast on immediately to make my oldest the first pair of mittens. I'm using some wool I kool-aid dyed last spring. I was able to finish one except for the thumb last night. Sorry about the bad color on the first pic.

The blue raspberry/cherry is for my oldest of course. The orange/blue raspberry/lime is for my baby boy. The youngest will get the lavender Denimstyle I already started her scarf in.

This is a pretty lazy morning but the day won't stay that way for sure. Today is payday for hubby so I've got to pay bills, grocery shop, clean house, do laundry, and KNIT! I mean come on, duh, of course I'll make time to knit. I've got to get the thumb on that mitten afterall. TR does not see the need for a thumbless mitten, she will not be convinced no matter how mommy pleads and conives. I admit it. I'm afraid of butchering that mitten thumb. I may just make the other mitten first, then do the thumbs together, that wouldn't break any mitten rules would it? Not that I really care anyway, just trying to be polite and all.

My poor baby is laid up for a few days, he managed to cut his foot yesterday really bad. He brought his footsie down on the jagged edge of a can lid, right between his toes. It cut pretty deep but his daddy didn't think stitches would work so we bandaged it up and elevated it all day yesterday. My mom who is a nurse checked it last night and said to keep him off it during the weekend and keep an eye on it. So he's being pampered in my recliner with food, books, and movies. He doesn't look too upset about the prospect does he?

The girls goofin off as normal. You can't tell by her grin now that the youngest totally puked spaghetti all over her bed last night, can ya? lol.

....just part and parcel of being a mom. Gotta love them all the time no matter how much they manage to stink up the house!! LOL Ahhhhhh.....I love 'em.

Now I'm haunting my inbox waiting for my ZigZag scarf pattern which I think I'm making for TR but it might end up being for my brother for Christmas. Thankfully only my little sister reads my blog! :)

Then as soon as I get this yarn:

I can start on Billy's scarf and then soon after, his matching hat.

While I'm waiting on the pattern and yarn, I'm working on TR's Christmas shrug and the Cardigan Grand Plan Capelet from the Spring '05 Interweave Knits. Last night I had Billy unravel a poncho I made last winter right after Christmas. I was sick of the thing, it looked more like a lacey skirt than anything. So I'm using that yarn, a ton of wool-ease in blue heather and about 4 balls of RH Tiki in blues. I think I'm gonna try some colorwork for the first time and work in a little bit of navy wool-ease as well. Say a prayer for me!!

No new progress on the BO scarf. I've decided to frog it and go buy some bamboo 10's before I start it again, so it's on hold maybe till after the holidays if I get too swamped.

Today was crazy and I could not have gotten to whatever time it is now without you Jesus. I woke up with hungry kids pulling at my jammies and managed to screw up the oatmeal while trying to write checks to pay the bills. Tossed out the oatmeal and sent hubby to the store for hotdogs since it was almost 11am anyway. Yes, I slept till almost 9am. That's really late for me but hubby and I have been staying up late watching movies lately so I'm dragging during the day due to lack of shut-eye. And whose fault is that? I know, no one to blame but myself. But I do hate going to bed without him, I just don't sleep well, know what I mean? Anyway back to my day.... I went out to the mailbox to mail the checks, (not knowing today was veteran's day and there would be no mail!) and found a note from the landlord saying he would be there at 3:45pm with the pest control guy for the quarterly treatment. I blew a fuse.
My house needed a thorough cleaning and now I had even less time and more work!! This exterminator requires ALL CABINETS IN THE KITCHEN AND BATHROOMS TO BE TOTALLY EMPTY!!!
This means all the food, all the dishes, all the drawers, all the linens, it's a HUGE job that usually takes me hours alone. Fortunately today I had my munchkins and hubby helping me and managed to get it all done with about 35 minutes to spare. Then I relaxed, let the kids play outside and waited....4 hours before I can put stuff back in the cabinets.....went grocery shopping with 3 hungry munchkins, spent too much, didn't get to buy any yarn, figured out how to buy a birthday gift in front of the birthday girl without her seeing it, came home, put the cold stuff in the fridge, grabbed a wine cooler, brushed the kids' teeth, read the Bible to them, prayed and kissed them goodnight. Now I'm totally bushed, too tired to even knit on the MD and definately too tired to fold that mountainous heap of clean laundry on my bed. Maybe I should just collapse on top of it and imagine it's all merino, silk, alpaca and cashmere yarns caressing my skin as I dream...............oh but the dissapointment I will feel when I wake!!

Someday I will have a $50.00 weekly yarn budget....okay now I'm dreaming. Please don't wake me up, I might turn on ya! LOL

G'night.

the Multidirectional scarf to be henceforth referred to as MD, cause I'm sick of typing that out! Isn't she a beauty?!! Can't to see how long she is with both balls of merino. I plan on finishing this Saturday night during Moms' Night Out. Movies, knitting and food. Ahhh...the perfect end to my week.

Also in the works is my Branching Out lace scarf, henceforth to be referred to as the BO for the same reason as the MD. I'm using Debbie Bliss Merino DK in a lavender shade that I got on sale at my LYS. I'm really praying that blocking really works some magic on this. I knew I should have grabbed my 10's instead of 8's. What do you think? Will it be okay or should I frog it and start over with 10's?

To end my post tonite I leave you with a picture of my munchkins. TR is the oldest, almost 7. Then comes my WT who is nearing the ripe old age of 4.5 years. And my baby, TJ just turned 3 on the 7th. I know I'm biased but I happen to think they are pretty darn cute!! Oh and sorry about the glare.

I adore their yarns!! This is turning out to be soooooo much easier than i had imagined!

So I'm totally okay with adding to my already HUGE list of projects. Yeah right. Oh well. I'm so already enjoying both of them. Yeah I cast on for two different scarves today as well as knitted on Tabi's shrug and her Waterlily shawl. I'm finally posting something worth looking at! Whoopee!

Okay the first finished project was this bow-knot scarf and 5 petal flower. I still have finish work to do on this but I tend to put that off as long as I can...hehe.
Oh and I made this on #6 needles with wool-ease in natural heather and a wool laceweight yarn I got in a swap with Lynlee. This scarf is my tithe. I decided to either give every 10th item I knit, or the proceeds from it as tithe on my knitting. This was the first thing in months I've done so I'm starting with it since the tithe is the FIRST 10%.

The next project was a scarf for my 4 yr old son. He wanted orange to go with his camo coat and hat so orange he got! He actually went with me to Michael's and picked out the wool-ease T&Q himself. This was my first time to get to use this yarn and it worked up so soft and cushy!! Hubby wants a sweater out of it next....we'll see. I designed it as I went and was pretty happy about how it turned out. I chose the spiral rib from one of my knitting books as inspiration.

Next is a soft bow-knot scarf with some of my own variations for my youngest who will be 3 on monday. I'm using Bernat Denimstyle and doing a 2x2 rib for the stretch and cushy factor. This will be done this weekend probably.

I also got this purse seamed up so I could use it. It's made from one of my favorite yarns to use, Lionbrand Landscapes

Last night I cast on for a shrug for Tabi to wear in Christmas pictures. She and Trin will have matching ones except for Tabi's being trimmed in pink Disco and Trin's in the purple Disco. The other yarn is just RH. I wanted it to be completely machine washable and dryable since my kids are so dirt-prone!!

I've got a few more to post on but I'll save them for later since my kids are clamoring for a snack and it's time for Tabi's riding lesson.
